I wrapped up the festival with some real gems....
The Way Way Back
This movie may have been my second favorite. Sam Rockwell, Steve Carell, Toni Collete, and Maya Rudolph. The film was about a teenage boy who summers with his mom and her boyfriend (total d-bag) in some coastal New England state. The teenage boy is hating his summer when he comes across this water park where he becomes fast friends with the water park's manager. The movie is hilarious while touching on tricky family situations. This movie will come out this summer and I promise you will love it.
Life According to Sam
What an incredible documentary! This documentary was about a rare disease called progeria which causes kids to age rapidly and subsequently die in their teenage years due to heart attacks and collapsed lungs. The movie focused on Sam and his mother who is desperately seeking to find a cure to the disease. Sam was such a positive kid who worked to maintain a normal teenage life despite his disease.
Inequality for All
This documentary was created former U.S. Labor Secretary Robert Reich. The film presented interesting statistics about taxation and the need to decrease wage inequality in the nation. I found the film insightful but certainly a topic I need to research more before I can completely agree with the info presented in the film. For being a documentary about economics it kept me captivated so that is a win win.
A.C.O.D.
This comedy was entertaining and had a great cast but I just didn't love the movie. I enjoyed it but found myself looking at my watch a lot. I think it was trying to demonstrate the commitment problems this one fellow suffered as a byproduct of watching his parents marriage fail. I think a lot of people will like this movie I just didn't really find it to be super funny or super insightful so it was just fair.
Linsainty
I loved this documentary about Jeremy Lin. He is a sensational basketball player who happens to be an Asian American and has recently managed major success in the NBA. The documentary followed him from his time at Harvard to his career with the Knicks. I may have fallen in love with Jeremy Lin while watching the film. Not only is he incredibly gifted in the sport of basketball but he is also a good Christian man who believes all of his success is from God. Yeah I would marry that guy tomorrow.
Yay for documentaries! I think I'll have to check some of these out.
