Animation Spotlight Shorts- I rarely see shorts at the festival because I'm too distracted by all the movies but my friend Jon really recommended the animation shorts. I was really impressed with the style and intricacy of many of the shorts. Two were downright disturbing but the others were neat. All the shorts seem to have birds and the color red in them... must have been some sort of theme.
Obvious Child-I loooooovveeed this movie! It was so funny! Jenny Slate stared in the film and she is a genius comedian. The story was about a girl who is dating and working as a comedian and then discovers she is pregnant from a one night stand. It was Juno meets Bridesmaids.
Happy Christmas- This movie had the lovely Anna Kendrick but it disappointed me. The story was about a twenty something going through tricky life transitions so she moves in with her brother and his wife and baby. The sister and sister-in-law develop an adorable relationship which reminded me of my love for my sisters but the dialog felt awkward and disjointed. It was unscripted but it was just kinda painful.
What We Do in the Shadows- This may be my favorite movie so far. I normally avoid anything vampire themed but this move was a faux-doc in which 4 vampires in New Zealand were documented. The movie had so many great one liners and story was laugh out loud funny the whole time. It had the funny fella, Germaine, from Flight of the Concords so that was wonderful too. After the movie the Director and Cast answered questions as though the film was actually true so it further added to the humor of the flick.
